450m2 Detached town home.
We were approached to improve upon an existing, approved planning scheme for a faux-Tudor house. The clients offered a blank brief other than a few basic requirements for their latter, retirement years in the property. The only real design request within the brief was to carefully capture a balance between a traditional, almost 'New England' influenced building style and a home which would offer open and light spaces. The end design resulted in two rectangles placed perpendicular to each other. The main, double storey rectangle is home to bedrooms, formal lounge and study, whilst the second, single storey rectangle houses the kitchen, dining, utility spaces and snug. The t-shape plan defines two courtyard spaces - front and rear, which were overlaid with a formal design framing the symmetry of the house.
